Michael Turner’s Arrest Came When Driving 97 MPH

Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner, who was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding, was driving 97 mph on an interstate northeast of Atlanta before a Gwinnett County police officer pulled him over, according to police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.

Turner was driving on Interstate 85 early Wednesday morning in a black Audi RB when he was allegedly clocked going 32 mph over the speed limit.

"The officer made contact with the driver who identified himself as 30-year-old Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons," Ritter said in a news release. "The officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and proceeded to conduct a DUI investigation."

While the police incident report was not immediately available, Ritter said Turner was taken into custody after the arresting officer conducted a field sobriety test.

Turner spent about two hours in the Gwinnett County jail before being released on $2,179 bond. Just hours earlier, the Falcons celebrated a 27-21 Monday Night Football victory against the Denver Broncos in which Turner scored the first touchdown of the game.

The Falcons issued a statement but are not saying much about the situation since this a legal matter.
