The New York Jets fear the non-contact left knee injury suffered by Darrelle Revis might end his season after just a pair of games played.
AFC East Injury Report: Darrelle Revis Possibly Done For Year
Darrelle Revis could miss the entire year with a torn ACL, and the Jets’ star cornerback will undergo an MRI Monday to see the extent of his injury. Also going down in the AFC East were running backs Reggie Bush and C.J. Spiller, both off to promising starts in 2012.
Revis, easily one of the league's best cornerbacks, if not the best, went down in the third quarter against the Miami Dolphins and needed to be carted off the field. Early fears were that the injury was a torn ACL, which would require season-ending surgery. He will receive an MRI Monday to determine the extent of the injury. The impact of a season without Revis was made evident in the team's Week 2 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, when Ben Roethlisberger threw with ease, including a 37-yard touchdown pass along the sideline in the end zone which Antonio Cromartie appeared to lose track of in the air.
Also receiving an MRi Monday to look at an injury is Reggie Bush, who also went down with a left knee injury in the Dolphins-Jets game. The running back already had 61 yards on 10 carries after a 172-yard outing Week 2. With Bush out, Daniel Thomas tallied 69 yards rushing and a touchdown, but lost a fumble in the third quarter and was not nearly as efficient as Bush. His injury is not believed to be as severe as Revis', but the MRI will tell the exact nature of the problem.
Another injury hit the Buffalo Bills' running back corps Sunday as C.J. Spiller left the team's game against Cleveland with a shoulder injury. Spiller had filled in admirably for Fred Jackson after the starter hurt his knee against the New York Jets in the season opener. He has over 100 yards on the ground in the team's first two games and was again looking good after scampering for a 32-yard receiving touchdown against the Browns before the injury. It appears he will miss at least a few weeks with the injury. Tashard Choice did fine filling in with 91 yards on 20 carries, but Jackson's injury is healing well and he is expected to return to the lineup soon, meaning Choice will probably not be asked to start any games for the Bills.
For the Jets, Stephen Hill, the rookie wide receiver out of Georgia Tech who already has a pair of touchdowns this season, left the game with a hamstring injury. He hadn’t recorded any catches yet when he exited in the second half. Bush and Spiller were the only players to leave the game for their respective teams.
The New England Patriots lost Julian Edelman for the night after his first touchdown reception since 2009 in the second quarter. Although the former college quarterback was untouched on the 7-yard grab, he left the game with a hand injury and wouldn't return. Wes Welker played the majority of snaps for the rest of the game, where he typically splits them with Edelman.
