Eagles cut Chas Henry, sign Mat McBriar

The Eagles cut punter Chas Henry and signed former All-Pro Mat McBriar on Tuesday.

Mark L. Baer-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Philadelphia Eagles made a change at punter Tuesday, as Mat McBriar has been signed to a new two-year contract after former punter Chas Henry was released. The move was made after three regular season games that featured Henry struggling compiling a net average of just 38.8 yards.

McBriar, 33, was cut after the preaseason after he lost the position to battle to Henry -- mainly because he had not fully recovered from a dropfoot condition. However, the two-time Pro Bowler for the Dallas Cowboys must of impressed the Eagles front office enough as he got the call Tuesday to replace Henry.

In three preseason games with the Eagles, the native of Australia punted eight times for 45.5-yard average and a net average of 41.3 yards.

Last season, McBriar punted for the Cowboys but was released after the season because of the dropfoot condition. While with Dallas, McBriar was named as an All-Pro in 2006 and ‘10.

McBriar is also expected to serve as a holder on field goals for Eagles' kicker Alex Henery.
