David Garrard will be cut by the Miami Dolphins, according to a FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer, who said he received a text message from Garrard on his release. This was not a huge surprise, as the Dolphins have already named Ryan Tannehill as the starting quarterback, and they also have Matt Moore who will be the team's backup quarterback.

The need to keep Garrard on as a third-string quarterback was not necessary, and it did not help Garrard’s case that he suffered a knee injury earlier in camp prior to the team’s preseason opener which cost him snaps while he was trying to get his knee healed.

With Garrard missing time and Tannehill being named the starter, it was a move the Dolphins felt they had to make.
