The St. Louis Rams have signed linebacker James Laurinaitis to a five year extension through the 2017 season worth an estimated $41.5 million.

Laurinaitis has started every game at middle linebacker in each of his first three seasons with the Rams after being selected with the 35th overall selection of the 2009 NFL Draft.
Laurinaitis’ statistics have improved in each of his three seasons in the NFL, recording career highs of 142 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions in 2011.
The Rams have been busy trying to lock up the core of their defense to long term deals this offseason. Defensive end Chris Long signed a four year extension in June to keep him in St. Louis through 2016.
