Mike Mularkey fired by Jaguars after 2-win season

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey was relieved of his duties after the Jaguars finished 2-14 in his only season as the team’s head coach.

In his first major move as general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars, David Caldwell relieved Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey of his duties. The team announced the move on Thursday morning.

Mularkey lasted just one season as Jacksonville’s head coach, and led the Jaguars to a meager 2-14 record -- tied for worst in the league. The Jaguars didn’t play well in any particular area, ranking 21st in the league in passing offense, 30th in rushing offense, 22nd in pass defense and 30th in rush defense.

Prior to landing in Jacksonville as Jaguars head coach in 2012, Mularkey served as Atlanta's offensive coordinator between 2008-11. Mularkey previously served as Buffalo Bills head coach between 2004-05, finishing 9-7 in 2004, before being fired after a 5-11 season in 2005.

Between his tenure as Bills and Jaguars head coach, Mularkey owns a career 16-32 record.

Though Caldwell and Mularkey spent time together in Atlanta, it appears that Caldwell prefers to handpick his own head coach, rather than give Mularkey a lame-duck season.
