John Dorsey introduced as Chiefs GM
The long-time friend of Andy Reid said it’s his “dream job.”

The Chiefs introduced John Dorsey as their new general manager at a press conference Monday. Dorsey joins the Chiefs with 20 years of experience in an NFL front office, including most recently as the director of operations for the Green Bay Packers.
"This is my dream job. It always has been," Dorsey said. "I've always wanted to, and I've always dreamed of being the general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs one day."
Dorsey replaces Scott Pioli, who was fired at the end of December.
Dorsey was the “clear-cut” favorite considering his long-time relationship with new Chiefs coach Andy Reid.
“Andy Reid’s resume speaks for itself,” Dorsey said. “I’ve known Andy for 20 years and I think he’s one of the finest men in all of the NFL. I’m excited to be aligned with him as we work to rebuild this organization.”
The Chiefs went just 2-14 this season, but produced seven Pro Bowlers. Dorsey said he hasn’t evaluated the roster fully yet, but he knows there is rebuilding to do.
“We’re here to win, and we’re going to do our job,” he said. “Please be patient. This is not a sprint. It is a marathon.”
The Chiefs hold the No. 1 pick in April’s NFL Draft. Dorsey smirked when he said they would take the best player available in the draft, but he noted the importance of quarterbacks in the NFL.
“I think any time you begin to build a franchise ... the quarterback is a very important part of any franchise,” he said. “I figure the quarterback position is a very important position for long term success.”
In SB Nation’s latest NFL mock draft, Matthew Fairburn has the Chiefs taking quarterback Geno Smith out of West Virginia with the No. 1 overall pick.
Dorsey said he will evaluate the team this week, as well as put together a plan for free agency, the draft and for the rest of the coaching staff. The whole process will be easier, he said, working alongside Reid.
“A relationship between a head coach and a general manager is paramount for success in the NFL today,” he said. “They have to have the same philosophy and the same understanding.
“With Andy Reid, I know I have that.”
