The Cleveland Browns have named Norv Turner as their new offensive coordinator, the team announced on Thursday. Turner has spent seven seasons combined as an offensive coordinator at various stops in the league, alternating between head coaching jobs.

Turner has long been known for creating productive offenses, most recently in San Diego as head coach. The Chargers took a dip this season, leading to Turner's firing, but in previous years they had been among the NFL's most explosive attacks. The team finished fifth in Football Outsiders' weighted offensive DVOA metric in 2011 (which measures a team's efficiency relative to their strength of schedule), the fourth straight year finishing in the top five. That came after the team was 14th in the same statistic in 2007, his first year at the helm.
The Browns will give Turner a somewhat inexperienced offense to work with, with soon-to-be second-year players Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson leading the way.
