Seahawks add Dan Quinn as DC after losing Gus Bradley

Seattle is bringing back a former assistant to head up their defense in 2013.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

The Seattle Seahawks didn't take long to replace departing defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, as they named Dan Quinn to that position on Thursday, the team has announced. This will be Quinn's second position on Pete Carroll's defensive staff, as he spent 2010 as the defensive line coach. Quinn served as the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida these past two years.

Quinn inherits a young, talented defensive group. The Seahawks led the league in points allowed in 2012, and finished fourth in Football Outsiders’ weighted defensive DVOA metric (a statistic that measures efficiency relative to schedule strength). That was after a 10th-place finish in 2011.

The Seahawks will hope Quinn can help address some of Seattle’s issues in putting pressure on the quarterback. Seattle was inconsistent in that area this past season, and it couldn’t get to Atlanta’s Matt Ryan in Sunday’s Divisional game. That’s a big reason why Seattle will be watching the NFC Championship at home.

The position opened up after Bradley took the head coaching position with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday night.
