Jay Cutler’s just trying not to crash Marc Trestman’s hypothetical car

Jay Cutler has himself a new offensive-minded coach ready to give the quarterback plenty of responsibility.

Jay Cutler's radio show, aptly titled The Jay Cutler Show, proved to be a weekly treasure chest on the way to the Chicago Bears' 10-6 season. Cutler is often derided for having a, let's say, callous personality, and the quarterback rarely makes an attempt to hide it on his ESPN 1000 gig with hosts Marc Silverman and Tom Waddle.

Taking on the often drunk and rowdy crowds in local suburban bars? Razzing Silverman to no end? Facetiously accepting the overly enthusiastic praise of callers? It was all on the table for Cutler’s radio show this season, making it appointment listening for many Bears fans in Chicago.

Personal highlights:

  • After one of the Bears’ many late season losses, a particularly zealous afternoon bar crowd heckled Cutler incessantly. To which the quarterback turned around and shouted “What are you people even doing here? Don’t you have jobs?”

When pressed by Silverman with a tough question, Cutler blanked stated “I’m going to get you shipped out to Milwaukee if it’s the last thing I do.”
Still, there are times when even someone as preternaturally petulant as Cutler can come off as self-effacing, and the radio show also does give the Bears QB to show a more human side. Such was the case on Thursday following the introduction of Marc Trestman as the next head coach of the Bears. Trestman comes to town with a reputation as an offensive guru, and made it clear in his presser that Cutler will have full control of the offense.

What was Cutler’s response to this?

Really, Jay, that’s all Bears fans ever asked.
