Minnesota Vikings injury report: Adrian Peterson sits out Wednesday practice

The MVP candidate ended the season nine yards shy of the NFL’s single-season rushing record.

USA TODAY Sports

Just three days after leading the Minnesota Vikings to a thrilling victory over the Green Bay Packers, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson sat out of practice Wednesday with an abdomen injury ahead of Saturday's playoff game. Peterson ran for 199 yards on 34 carries, ending the season with 2,097 yards on the ground, just nine yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's league record of 2,105 yards.

Peterson and the Vikings will be facing the Packers for the second time in as many weeks in this Saturday's Wild Card playoff game. Minnesota would love to have Peterson back after he rushed for 409 yards in two games against Green Bay this year. The superstar running back wasn't the only Viking to sit out of practice Wednesday though. Linebacker Tyrone McKenzie (shoulder) and cornerback Antoine Winfield (hand) didn't practice for the Vikings.

Several players were limited as well, most notably quarterback Christian Ponder. who is dealing with an elbow injury in his throwing arm. Defensive end Brian Robinson (shoulder) and safety Harrison Smith (knee) also took it easy in practice.

Defensive end Jared Allen was a full participant in Wednesday's practice as he deals with a shoulder injury. Punter Chris Kluwe got in a full practice while sporting a left knee injury. Tackle Phil Loadholt (knee), cornerback A.J. Jefferson (ankle) and defensive end George Johnson (quadricep) were also full participants in practice.
