Matt Ryan contract: Falcons reportedly will explore extension in offseason

After his first career playoff victory and another strong season leading the Falcons to the NFC’s No. 1 seed, Matt Ryan might be in store for a big pay raise.

Playing Sunday for a shot at his first Super Bowl appearance, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is reportedly on the verge of a massive contract extension offer from his team, win or lose, after the end of this season, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer.

The Falcons quarterback, who won his first playoff game last weekend after leading the Falcons to the NFC's top overall seed and a first-round bye following a 13-3 season, is set to make $10 million in 2013, the final season of his current contract.

Ryan's growing stock and continued strong performance — he passed for 4,719 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2012 — make him a much more valuable asset to Atlanta. The team is expected to offer what Glazer called a "mega-contract" extension to their franchise quarterback.

Five seasons after being selected No. 3 overall by the Falcons in the 2008 NFL draft, Ryan has compiled 127 regular season touchdown passes while completing 62.7 percent of his throws. Ryan has been durable, appearing in all but two of the Falcons' games in his five years with the team.
