NFC Championship Game: Tony Gonzalez is still amazing

Tony Gonzalez scored with 29 seconds left before the half to put the Falcons up, 24-14, over the 49ers.

The Atlanta Falcons took a fast 17-0 lead at the start of the second quarter in the NFC Championship Game, but Colin Kaepernick rallied the San Francisco 49ers to close the gap to 17-14. On Atlanta's very next drive, Matt Ryan marched right down the field, hitting Tony Gonzalez from 10 yards out to put the Falcons up, 24-14, at halftime.

Gonzalez has five receptions for 45 yards and the score as he plays for his first ever Super Bowl appearance. The future Hall of Fame tight end had never even won a playoff game until last week, when the Falcons held off the Seattle Seahawks, 30-28.

Even at age 36, Gonzalez hasn’t lost a step. He had another productive season with 93 catches, 930 yards and eight touchdowns.

Gonzalez has hinted that he may retire after this season. It would be all too appropriate if he gets that long-coveted Super Bowl ring in his final year.
