Sione Pou’ha injury update: Jets DL doesn’t need surgery
The big nose tackle won’t need surgery on his back, which is a good thing for the Jets’ defense next season.

5. Injury update: Good news for the Jets. NT Sione Po’uha, who underwent an MRI exam after the season on his troublesome back, doesn’t need surgery, according to a source. The plan right now is rehab.
The seventh-year man out of Utah played in 12 games for the Jets this season. It was his first time since his rookie season that he played in less than all 16 regular season games.
Pou’ha recorded 20 tackles, nine assisted tackles and a sack this season. The injury created a down year for Pou’ha, who had 41 solo tackles in each of the last two seasons.
In his career, Pou’ha has 192 solo tackles and 4.5 sacks in 106 games. In that span, he’s started 55 games.
Pou’ha was in the first year of a three-year, $15 million contract with the Jets this past season. A total of $9.5 million on the contract is guaranteed, so the Jets are happy their nose tackle won’t need surgery. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2014 season.
