Senior Bowl 2013: Eric Fisher emerges

The offensive tackle out of Central Michigan is opening eyes at the Senior Bowl.

Who’s Eric Fisher?

Perhaps the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. That’s who.

The offensive tackle out of Central Michigan is making himself known at Senior Bowl practice this week. He’s all the rage on Twitter after an impressive day of practice Tuesday:

NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal also called Fisher the “standout early player” at Senior Bowl practice:

Mayock and NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah called him a sure-fire first-round pick that moves well. Jeremiah said he could be in the top 10, and Mayock wasn’t ready to rule out Fisher as the top tackle in the draft. (Some folks think Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel could be the first overall pick. But it’s very, very early.)

Fisher is 6’7 and checked in at 305 pounds at practice this week. Nothing seems to be slowing down Fisher -- not even a knee injury he suffered in 2011. He missed the final two games of the season because of the injury, but he returned to start all 12 games for Central Michigan in 2012.

NFL.com likens Fisher to Joe Staley of the San Francisco 49ers. Fisher’s tall frame gives him an advantage as an offensive tackle, but scouts also credit his “eye-popping agility in the open field.“

In the latest SB Nation NFL mock draft, Matthew Fairburn has the Kansas City Chiefs picking Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel with the first overall pick in April’s draft. Fairburn has Fisher slated to go No. 11 overall to the San Diego Chargers. Fairburn says if the Chargers draft the behemoth out of Central Michigan, then he “can be a fixture on the left side for the rest of [Philip] RIvers’ career and quickly help improve San Diego’s offense.”
