Super Bowl 2013: Clay Matthews hired as CBS analyst

Packers linebacker Clay Matthews and his hair will join CBS to talk pregame Super Bowl storylines.

Tom Pennington

Just as teammate Aaron Rodgers did a season ago, Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews will take the announcing desk for CBS as a pregame analyst, according to a report from Paul Imig of FOXSportsWisconsin.com on Thursday.

Outside of football, you may have seen Matthews in every fourth commercial on television today, doing promotional work for places and things like Depends, Verizon, Fathead, Gillette and State Farm Insurance, among others. Rodgers, who earlier during the season voiced displeasure following a piece that "60 Minutes" did on him made more of his sensitivity, overshadowing his charitable contributions to a foundation that battles cancer in children, was quoted in Imig's report that he will not be involved in CBS's coverage of this year's Super Bowl.

Matthews has first-hand knowledge of the San Francisco 49ers, and quarterback Colin Kaepernick in particular, who defeated Green Bay in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs, 45-31. Kaepernick shredded the Packer defense, rushing for 181 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for 263 yards and two more touchdowns.

The official title given to Matthews by CBS is “contributing analyst” during the network’s pregame telecast.
