After playing in the Pro Bowl on Sunday, Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Andrew Whitworth said Monday he plans to have surgery to relieve pain in his knee, according to the Bengals' official website.
Andrew Whitworth injury update: Bengals LT set for offseason surgery
Whitworth has felt the pain for a few years now, but he’s set for surgery in the offseason.

The procedure will “deal with some scar tissue.” He’ll miss spring practices, but he’ll be back for training camp:
“It’s just a little repair; nothing big,” Whitworth said. “Everybody in the league deals with something like this. I did it about two years ago and it just wasn’t getting any better. Now we’ve got a chance to get something done with plenty of time to rest.”
The injury was minor enough, according to the story, that Whitworth was able to wait to see if he would get a Pro Bowl nomination.
Whitworth played in his first Pro Bowl on Sunday. SB Nation’s Cincy Jungle said no one on the Bengals was more deserving. Whitworth, 31, has been a rock for the Bengals for basically his entire career. He’s played in all 16 games for four consecutive seasons. He has started 67 straight games, including the playoffs, which is a record for the Bengals.
Whitworth was a late add to the AFC's Pro Bowl roster. He replaced Denver Broncos tackle Ryan Clady, who backed out because of an injury. Whitworth did not start the game.
