The game is a betting clash of the Redskins, running a 7-2 ATS streak in their past nine games as an underdog, against the Seahawks, money-makers as chalk, as evidenced by their 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS mark in their past seven games as a favorite.
Since coming out of their bye in Week 10, the Washington Redskins have been one of the league’s absolute best teams. With a 7-0 SU and ATS record down the stretch, Washington wiped out a 3-6 SU start to win the NFC East.
Over the seven-game winning streak, the Redskins won five division rivalry games and avoided an out-of-conference trap when the Baltimore Ravens came to town. Rookie tandem Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris were sensational all season long, and the defense did its part over the last six games.
Seattle also had an outstanding regular season and finish to the year, going 11-5 SU and ATS and ending with a 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS stretch.
While rookie quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III were garnering all of the preseason hype, Russell Wilson beat out Matt Flynn for the starting job in Seattle and went on to tie Peyton Manning’s single-season rookie passing touchdown record with 26.
Couple that with a dominant running back in Marshawn Lynch, and the Seahawks have a reliable offense to go along with their elite (15.3 points per game against) defense.
The total went OVER in five of Seattle’s final six games and four of Washington’s final six. Seattle was just 3-5 SU and 4-4 ATS on the road this season compared to an 8-0 SU and 7-1 ATS record at home, but did win each of its last two road games against Chicago and Buffalo.
It’s hard to go wrong when choosing between two 11-5 ATS teams, and whoever wins this game will be no easy out next week.
Seattle has the edge on defense, but in a game that appears to be so close on paper it is hard to pass on taking the points on a team led by Robert Griffin III going against a team that has struggled on the road.
