Christian Ponder injury: Vikings QB dealing with elbow issue

Christian Ponder is expected to play versus the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.

Hannah Foslien

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder has been dealing with an elbow injury this week but is still expected to play versus the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, according to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com.

Glazer reports that the quarterbacks are expected to meet with the coaches today to decide their plan for the game.

Glazer is also reporting that backup quarterback Joe Webb took all the first-team reps at practice this past week but Ponder will play, according to the team. The Vikings players have not yet been told who will start versus the Packers on Saturday.

Ponder was 16 of 28 passing for 234 yards and three touchdowns in the team`s 37-34 win over the Green Bay Packers last week which earned them a berth in the playoffs. Ponder started all 16 games for the Vikings in the regular season.

K.J. Segall at The Daily Norseman wonders if the Ponder injury news might be a ruse:

It does seem odd that Ponder was able to finish the game just fine with his sore elbow, considering it was hurt in the second quarter. Granted, in-game adrenaline can do wonders for pain management, and some injuries can actually become worse in the short-term with rest. Still, unless he aggravated it post-game, I would be very surprised if it prevented him from playing the entire game- much less make the start.

Backup quarterback Joe Webb has yet to throw a pass for Minnesota this year.
