Christian Ponder injury: Vikings QB suffered triceps bruise

Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder was kept out of Saturday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers due to an injury to his triceps, not his elbow, the QB said after the game.

A deep triceps bruise, not an elbow injury, is what kept Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder out of Saturday’s Wild Card matchup against the Green Bay Packers, according to Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500.

Following the Vikings’ loss to the Packers, head coach Leslie Frazier said during his press conference that on Friday Ponder had improved to the point where the team had hope the quarterback could start Saturday’s playoff opener. However, Frazier said that it became evident before the game that it wouldn’t be the "smart" move to play Ponder, as the quarterback wasn’t able to do some of the things that were asked of him from the coaching staff.

While Ponder had been included on the Vikings’ injury report throughout the week, Frazier said that he expected him to play. Instead, Minnesota went with backup quarterback Joe Webb against the Packers. The third-year player had a rough night, as he only completed 11 of his 30 pass attempts for 180 yards with one touchdown, one interception and one lost fumble.
