Jared Allen injury: Vikings DE to have arthroscopic surgery

Vikings defensive end will have surgery for the first time in his career.

Scott Halleran

Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen will have arthroscopic shoulder surgery now that the season has ended for the Vikings after their loss to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday in the NFL Playoffs.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that this will be the first time that Allen has had surgery in his nine-year NFL career. Allen told Kareem Copeland of NFL.com that the shoulder has been a lingering issue for him this season.

“My inside game wasn’t as good as I would have liked for it to have been just because I really didn’t have as much power in my hump,” Allen told Copeland. “... But you fight through it and you’re never fully healthy. I’ll get it cleaned up. This is the first time I’m ever going underneath the knife. I had my tonsils out when I was 5 but that’s it.”

Allen had 45 tackles and 12 sacks for the Vikings this season.
