Seahawks vs. Redskins, 2013 NFL Playoffs: ‘A disappointing end to an exciting season’

The Washington Redskins saw a great start turn into an awful finish when Robert Griffin III suffered a knee injury as his team gave up 24 unanswered points en route to a 24-14 loss.

Excitement quickly turned to fear for Washington Redskins fans, who saw their team open the game with a fury before losing to the Seattle Seahawks to end their season, and having Robert Griffin III suffer an injury that might result in long-term damage.

Griffin was hobbled almost from the start of the game, but managed to lead his team on a pair of touchdown drives, thanks mainly to tremendous running from Alfred Morris. But after his limp became noticeable, Griffin's mobility vanished, as did the drive on most of his throws. The offense stagnated while the Redskins saw their 14-0 lead turn into a 21-14 deficit. Then, as Pete Volk of Redskins blog Hogs Haven wrote, the worst possible thing that could've happened to Washington did:

Then, disaster struck. Mike Shanahan had elected to leave Griffin in the game, despite calls from fans, hoping to avoid long-term damage, to take out the obviously injured quarterback. On a fourth quarter botched snap, Griffin twisted his knee badly, forcing him out of the game. Here is a GIF of the play - viewer discretion is advised.

The debate about whether Shanahan was correct to leave his limping quarterback in the game has already caught full steam. The injury wasn’t caused by a hit, leading to questions of whether it could eat into Griffin’s future.

Kirk Cousins couldn't lead the team back, and soon enough the Redskins had lost 24-14.
