Dolphins owner Stephen Ross happy with Joe Philbin, Ryan Tannehill

Joe Philbin and Ryan Tannehill are the right people for the job, Ross said.

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said Monday that the most important pieces are in place for the Dolphins to be successful, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel.

Ross said he has faith in both coach Joe Philbin and quarterback Ryan Tannehill to lead the Dolphins to a winning record and a trip to the playoffs:

“The two biggest ingredients in a winning team is your coach. We have a head coach. Then your quarterback,” Ross said. “I think we have our QB.”

“This year we were going with a rookie quarterback. You have to be optimistic. I thought Ryan performed well,” Steve Ross said.

“One of the characteristics Joe had is that he had an organized presentation. He did everything he’s said he’s going to do,” Ross said.

Ross said the Dolphins were in most games this year, aside from a few. Miami finished the year with a 7-9 record and a second place finish in the AFC East.

Once again, the Dolphins finished behind the New England Patriots in the AFC East. The Patriots ended the Dolphins' season with a 28-0 win in Foxboro, Mass. Ross said the Patriots are great, but their success is "not going to last forever."

Tannehill had an up-and-down season for the Dolphins. The 8th overall pick in this year’s draft started all 16 games for the Dolphins, completing 58 percent of his passes for 3,294 yards. He threw 12 touchdown and 13 interceptions on the season, but he finished the year with five touchdown passes in his last four games.

Ross said general manager Jeff Ireland has “football intelligence” and is “smart and committed. He has a plan.”

Ross also said toward the end of the press conference that the Dolphins will have a new logo before April’s NFL Draft, noting that it’s “time for an update.”
