Chargers GM rumors: Jimmy Raye, Colts’ Tom Telesco among favorites

Jimmy Ray and Tom Telesco are the front-runners for the San Diego Chargers’ general manager vacancy.

The San Diego Chargers have two clear front-runners for their general manager vacancy, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com. Those two candidates include their own director of player personnel, Jimmy Raye, and Tom Telesco, who is the director of player personnel for the Indianapolis Colts.

According to Breer, the Chargers just wrapped up a three-plus day trip during which they conducted multiple interviews. Raye and Telesco reportedly were “very impressive” during their interviews.

Raye has been the top man for the job since the Chargers made the position available. San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble was considered a top candidate, but the Chargers had to reschedule his interview, which seems to indicate that Gamble will take the general manager job with the New York Jets.

Raye has been with the Chargers organization for 17 years in various capacities. He was one of the final candidates for the general manager position with the Chicago Bears a season ago, before the team settled on Phil Emery.
