Cardinals hire Steve Keim as general manager

The Cardinals promoted Keim from vice president of player personnel to general manager.

The Arizona Cardinals have hired Steve Keim to be their new general manager. The team announced the news via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. There will be a press conference at 5 p.m. ET to introduce the new GM.

Keim replaces former general manager Rod Graves, who was with the team for 16 years. Graves was the general manager since 2007, and was fired Dec. 31, along with coach Ken Whisenhunt.

After interviewing with several other teams, Keim will be promoted from vice president of player personnel to general manager. Keim has been with the Cardinals since 1999, when he was a regional scout. He was named the vice president of player personnel in 2012.

The Cardinals are trying to rebound from a 2012 season that started with promise and ended with disappointment. After winning their first four games of the season, including a narrow win over the New England Patriots, the Cardinals finished the season by losing 11 of their last 12 games.

Arizona finished the season with a 5-11 record. The Cardinals were fourth in the NFC West.
