Seattle Seahawks sign Patrick Chukwurah

The six-year veteran hasn’t played in the NFL since 2007.

The Seattle Seahawks will sign defensive end Patrick Chukwurah, according to the NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

The Seahawks are looking to fill a void left by defensive end Chris Clemons, who tore his ACL in Sunday's Wild Card game against the Washington Redskins.

The 33-year-old fifth-round pick in 2001 last played in the NFL in 2007 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Through his six-year career, Chukwurah played in 78 games and started five of those. He has recorded 58 tackles and nine sacks in his career.

Chukwurah, who has been playing in the United Football League, reportedly beat out defensive ends Aaron Maybin, Ray Edwards and Travis LaBoy in a tryout this week to replace Clemons.

Chukwurah's best NFL season came in 2006 with the Denver Broncos. Despite not starting a single game, Chukwurah recorded 19 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks.

According to Rapoport, Chukwurah will be available to play in this weekend's divisional game against the Atlanta Falcons.
