NFL news roundup: Julio Jones’ season is over, Champ Bailey is a full participant at practice

The Atlanta Falcons' season keeps getting worse after it was announced that Julio Jones will undergo season-ending ankle surgery next Monday. Jones had upped his play while fellow wide receiver Roddy White dealt with a high-ankle sprain, and is currently second in the league in receiving yards with 580.

Jones suffered the injury during the Falcons' loss to the Jets on Monday night and sought out a second opinion on Wednesday, but still received the same grave news. Without Jones, the 1-4 Falcons will have to rely more heavily on tight end Tony Gonzalez and veteran receiver Harry Douglas to fill the void until White is fully healthy.

The Falcons heard the Jones news, an immediately went out trying to fill his open position. Atlanta held a workout on Wednesday and plans to offer a contract to wide receiver Brian Robiskie, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.

Robiskie was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2009, and has 43 receptions for 485 yards and four touchdowns over his career. He is the son of Falcons wide receiver coach Terry Robiskie. He appeared in six games with the Detroit Lions last season, totaling four receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown.

The Denver Broncos have been rolling this year, but they've been doing it without one of the top cornerbacks in the league while Champ Bailey recovers from a foot injury. On Wednesday, he finally had his first full practice, and coach John Fox said the cornerback had a very good workout. Bailey is coming off a Pro-Bowl season where he played every game and finished with 66 tackles and two interceptions. Bailey injured his left foot at Seattle in an exhibition game on Aug. 17.

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is a fan of the HBO documentary series "Hard Knocks" and said he would not turn down the opportunity to be featured, according to NFL.com. Harbaugh is no stranger to the television screen, on and off the field as shown by commercial spots with Pepsi and Visa.

It might be a dream that won't come true however, as the 49ers would have to volunteer to let viewers see the San Francisco locker room. Even then, they might have to wait a bit as the San Diego Chargers are reportedly interested in appearing in the 2014 version of the show.

Both Darren McFadden and Rashad Jennings returned to practice on Wednesday, albeit somewhat limited. McFadden was inactive in Week 5 with a hamstring injury, while Jennings started in McFadden's place but lasted into just the second quarter before he left the game with his own hamstring injury. The Raiders are one of the better running teams in the league and take on the 5-0 Chiefs this week.
