D.J. Williams injury: Bears LB lost for season with torn pectoral muscle, per report

Embroiled in a playoff hunt, Chicago will turn to their second option to anchor their defense.

Justin K. Aller

Chicago Bears linebacker D.J. Williams is out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com. After letting Brian Urlacher go after last season, Williams was the heir-apparent of the most famous position in Bears history. Rookie second-round pick Jon Bostic is expected to slide into the starting role in WIlliams' absence.

Released in March after nine seasons in Denver, Williams is a former first-round pick that the Bears had signed to a one-year deal. Before tearing the muscle against the Giants Thursday night, Williams had 27 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble on the season.

The Bears selected Bostic out of the University of Florida in the second round with the 50th pick overall in April. He has only three pro tackles and is perhaps best-known for his reputation of illegal hits on defenseless receivers. It will be interesting to see if this behavior changes with his starting role.
