Buccaneers vs. Eagles game will go on as planned after MRSA scare

The game will continue as scheduled despite another diagnosis of the staph infection.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Sunday's game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles will continue as scheduled, reports NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Whether the teams would play the game was in doubt after another diagnosis of an MRSA infection in one of the Buccaneers players, with a third party analysis set take place to best assess the situation.

Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik confirmed on Friday that a third player had been diagnosed with the staph infection. Guard Carl Nicks and former kicker Lawrence Tynes had previously been diagnosed with an MRSA infection during an outbreak at the team's training camp facility in August. Both the Eagles and Bucs agreed to an analysis from the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network before making a final determination for the status of Sunday's game.

Nicks missed the first two games of the season with the infection, and tests this past week indicated the infection has returned to his foot. Tynes was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list following his diagnosis, leading to the NFLPA filing a grievance on behalf of the kicker.
