NFL to fine Brandon Marshall for shoes highlighting Mental Health Awareness Week

The NFL is probably going to fine Marshall for a controversial violation of his jersey protocol.

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL is reportedly likely to fine Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall for wearing green shoes on Thursday night in honor of Mental Health Awareness week, according to Adam Schefter.

Normally, if a player wants to wear something that is not part of the standard uniform, the league must be notified and then, if the request is granted, everything is good to go. Apparently, that is not the way things went down for Marshall’s shoes, costing him $5,250.

Of course, this is a delicate situation. The league does not want players to start going rogue for all sorts of things and distorting the uniform, but at the same point, Marshall is bringing to light a cause important to him. He has suffered from a Borderline Personality Disorder, per FOX sports.

Earlier in the week, Marshall had been told by the league not to wear the cleats or to expect a fine. The talented receiver was so determined to make a stand that he actually said he’d not only pay the fine but match it and donate the money to charity.
