Colts vs. Chargers 2013 halftime update: Chargers lead 10-6

Philip Rivers found Keenan Allen in the endzone and the Chargers lead 10-6 at halftime.

The Colts and Chargers are both known for their offenses, but it was the defenses that got the better of the first half. San Diego scored twice in the second quarter to lead Indianapolis 10-6 at halftime.

Indianapolis' offense got off to a great start, taking the opening kickoff and marching down the field. The Colts drove 69 yards to San Diego's 11-yardline before the drive stalled. Andrew Luck and Reggie Wayne were unable to connect in the endzone on third down and the Colts opted for a field goal. Despite the good start, the Colts' offense was unable to get much going the rest oft the half, punting on their next three possessions.

San Diego punted on its first two possessions before Philip Rivers and the offense found some success. The Chargers put together a 12-play drive with Rivers hitting rookie Keenan Allen for a touchdown to put the Chargers up. Allen was Rivers' main weapon on the drive, catching four passes for 51 yards.

After a Colts punt, the Chargers extended the lead with another long drive. San Diego controlled the clock with a 17-play drive. Rivers nearly hit Allen for a second touchdown, but the wide receiver was unable to come up with the catch and the Chargers tacked on a field goal to make it a 10-3 game.

Luck quickly moved the Colts down the field at the end of the half, setting up a 50-yard field goal, which Adam Vinatieri drilled as the half expired.

Rivers came into the game off back-to-back games with at least 400 passing yards. While the Chargers have the lead, Rivers will need a huge second half if he’s going to become the first player in NFL history to throw for 400 or more yards in three straight games. He finished the first half with 106 yards.
