NFL news roundup: Jake Locker to start, Jameel McClain activated and more

Quarterback Jake Locker will start for the Tennessee Titans, Jameel McClain was activated from the PUP and more you may have missed from Saturday.

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker will be the team's starter on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Locker is listed as questionable on the injury report with hip and knee injuries and has missed the past two games, to say nothing of being limited in practice all week. His replacement, Ryan Fitzpatrick, has lost his two starts in Locker's place, which may have played a part in Locker returning from the injury much sooner than anticipated.

Here’s what else you might have missed from Saturday:

Baltimore activates McClain

The Baltimore Ravens have officially activated linebacker Jameel McClain off the physically unable to perform list. McClain will likely play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. He's listed as probable on the official injury report. He's been dealing with an injury to his spinal cord which caused him to miss all of training camp and the preseason.

Talib ruled out

New England Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib was ruled out for Sunday's game against the New York Jets. Talib is dealing with a strained hip flexor, sustained in the team's Week 6 win over the New Orleans Saints. Talib played well in that game, covering tight end Jimmy Graham for much of the first half. It'll be big to lose him for a week, but the Patriots are heavily favored over the 3-3 Jets.

Bum Philips dead at 90

Former Houston and New Orleans head coach Bum Phillips died on Friday at the age of 90. Phillips spent 11 seasons as a head coach in the NFL, and was considered to be one of the best defensive coaches of his time. The Oilers had 10 wins in four of his six seasons as head coach in Houston. Phillips is the father of current Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Bum will live on as a great coach in NFL's history books and one of the most quotible personalities around the league.
