Chris Long ejected after Rams, Panthers fight

The defensive end was ejected after appearing to throw a punch during a third-quarter scrum.

St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long has been disqualified from the team's game against the Carolina Panthers after a multi-player fracas broke during the second half Sunday afternoon.

Long appeared to throw a punch during a large scrum that erupted at the beginning of the third quarter. Panthers receiver Steve Smith and Long could be seen jawing on the field during the previous play, and Long was clearly upset by something Smith said. A large shoving match erupted after the end of the next play, with players from both teams rushing in to join the scuffle.

Long (No. 91) can be seen putting his hand in the face of a Panthers player in the GIF below.

Multiple penalty flags rained down amid the scrum, and following the incident, referees announced that Long was being ejected from the game.

A frustrated Rams team was trailing 17-5 at the time of the ejection.

Further flaring tempers after the incident, a fan threw an object in Long’s direction as he was being escorted from the field following his ejection.
