Jermichael Finley’s injury is not career-ending, per report

One report suggests that the bruised spinal cord tight end Jermichael Finley suffered on Sunday will not be career-ending.

Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley sustained a serious injury on Sunday, but initial opinions from doctors suggest that his injuries will not end his career, according to Ed Werder of ESPN. Finley should be released from the hospital by Wednesday afternoon. As to when he could return to football, there is no timetable. It's likely far too early for that.

In a follow-up tweet, Werder says that, despite Finley likely being able to play in the NFL again, "it would not be surprising" to see the Packers placing Finley on season-ending injured reserve before the week is over.

Finley was originally carted off the field with a neck injury, and was placed in the intensive care unit Sunday night. Finley remained there overnight, and was released from intensive care on Monday. Late Monday night and early Tuesday, reports trickled in suggesting that the injury was a bruised spinal cord.

The tight end took a helmet-to-helmet hit to do the damage. Right now, the cause for concern is still there regarding Finley’s long-term health, but these early reports are encouraging, at the very least.
