Josh Freeman remains Vikings starting quarterback

The Minnesota Vikings are sticking with their new acquisition as their starter heading into Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

The Minnesota Vikings announced that they are sticking with Josh Freeman as their starting quarterback for Week 8's Sunday Night Football matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Minnesota signed Freeman two weeks ago, but he was inactive for Week 6 due to lacking familiarity with the playbook.

Unfortunately, his start in Week 7 was anything but confidence-inspiring. Then again, the Vikings probably shouldn't have asked a quarterback so new to the system to throw the ball a whopping 53 times, while running back Adrian Peterson only carried it 13 times.

Freeman ended up completing 20 of those passes for 190 yards and an interception, with no touchdowns. It was an abysmal day and one of the ugliest games of the season for both teams. Still, the team didn’t sign Freeman to give up on him after just one week.

He’s got big-play potential and has the weapons around him, he just needs to get familiar and get out of the slump that forced him out of Tampa Bay. Whether or not he can actually do that is anybody’s guess, but he’ll get a chance to face one of the NFL’s worst secondaries against the Packers.

Unfortunately for the Vikes, that poor secondary is supplemented by a strong passing game, running game and run defense.
