NFL news roundup: Elvis Dumervil’s ex-agent fined, Jermichael Finley injury updates and more

Elvis Dumervil’s former agent was punished by the NFLPA, Jermichael Finley should be able to play football again and more from Tuesday in the NFL.

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

The former agent of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Elvis Dumervil received punishment from the NFL Players Association on Tuesday. Agent Marty Magid's certification will be suspended for six months and he will be fined $25,000 for failing to fax a contract that would have earned Dumervil significantly more money than he ended up making. It was a messy situation that saw Dumervil go from Denver to free agent to Baltimore.

Here’s what else you might have missed from Tuesday:

Finley’s injury not career-ending

Jermichael Finley’s bruised spinal cord will not force him to an early retirement, according to a report Tuesday. It’s still early, but the doctors believe Finley will be able to return to football after the injury scare. He’ll probably miss the rest of the season, and it’s not clear when he would be able to return, but it’s good news for sure.

Transactions galore

There were plenty of transactions of note on Tuesday, so we've put a bunch together in a different roundup. The most significant move came when the Detroit Lions released tight end Tony Scheffler, who has contributed off and on this season and had high expectations. Vikings sticking with Freeman

The Minnesota Vikings announced that they are sticking with Josh Freeman as their starting quarterback in Week 8. Freeman was signed two weeks ago and was inactive in Week 6, but made his first start for a team other than Tampa Bay in Week 7. It did not go well, as he completed just 20 of a whopping 53 pass attempts. Still, it wouldn't make sense to give up on him so quickly.

Bailey ruled out

Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey will miss Week 8 with a foot injury. Bailey missed the first five games of the season due to the injury, but did manage to return over the past two weeks. The injury sticking around is significant, as the Broncos have the worst-ranked secondary in the NFL this season. Bailey may be old, but the team is definitely better with him in the lineup, so hopefully he can get healthy sooner rather than later.
