The NFL has not settled on a punishment for San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith, but commissioner Roger Goodell hinted that the league could elect to do nothing given that the player checked himself into rehab. The 49ers urged Smith into rehab, making him miss multiple games with no return date confirmed, and that might be enough for the league, as Goodell says the league doesn't want to discipline players, it wants to "stop the behavior."
NFL news roundup: Aldon Smith rehab, Percy Harvin injury and more
The NFL doesn’t know if it will punish Aldon Smith given his entry into rehab, Percy Harvin will miss this week’s game and more you might have missed from Saturday in the NFL.

Saturday was a bit light on the news overall, but here’s what else you might have missed:
The Seattle Seahawks are getting wide receiver Percy Harvin back in the lineup soon, but not this week. Harvin returned to practice, leading many to question whether or not he'd be able to return this week, but the team confirmed he will be out at least until Week 9. Harvin is recovering from a hip injury that required surgery.
The Pittsburgh Steelers restructured the contract of cornerback Ike Taylor. They converted the rest of his base salary into a signing bonus, giving them about $1.5 million in additional salary cap space for the season. It was an important move, given that they only had $200,000 in salary cap space remaining for the season.
Apparently, both the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles had deals in place to acquire tight end Tony Gonzalez from the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2008. It certainly would have been interesting to see Gonzalez playing for a team like the Packers, catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. It also begs the question: would he have a Super Bowl ring yet?
Oft-injured wide receiver Danny Amendola said that he's not going to change his playing style to avoid sustaining injuries. Amendola has barely played with the New England Patriots this season because of injuries. He's dealt with significant injuries throughout his entire career. He's good when he's healthy, but maybe he feels as though he would lose some of that ability if he altered his game.
