Sidney Rice injury: Seahawks WR tore his ACL, per report

Sidney Rice left Monday’s game and, according to a report, it was due to a torn ACL.

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle wide receiver Sidney Rice suffered a torn ACL on Monday night, according to a report from Pro Football Talk. The team has not confirmed the injury, but if that is indeed the case, Rice will miss the rest of the 2013 season.

Rice left Monday’s game against St. Louis during the first half and was listed as doubtful to return due to a knee injury. Seattle head coach Pete Carroll did not mention the knee injury on Tuesday, instead saying Rice had “concussion issues,” according to NFL.com. Rice has a long history of injuries and has played in 16 games just once in seven seasons.

Although Rice hasn't put up big numbers for the Seahawks this year, he has made some timely catches and is currently the No. 1 receiver. Without Rice in the lineup, second-year receiver Jermaine Kearse will likely play a larger role for the Seahawks. Kearse has excelled at times this season and has taken some snaps away from Rice, even before the injury. Seattle will also get Percy Harvin back soon.

The injury puts Rice's future with the team in doubt. He signed a big free agent deal with Seattle in 2011 and has failed to live up to expectations. Seattle could release Rice after this season and put the savings toward extending several other key players, including wide receiver Golden Tate.
