The New York Jets have claimed rookie tight end Zach Sudfeld off of waivers from the New England Patriots, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports and confirmed by the National Football Post's Aaron Wilson.

Sudfeld was released by the Patriots on Thursday after the signing of receiver Austin Collie. The undrafted free agent out of Nevada was impressive in the preseason for the Patriots, showcasing top athletic ability on a 6’7, 260-pound frame and appearing to be a long-term option for the Patriots at tight end.

After catching eight passes for 101 yards and a touchdown in the preseason, Sudfeld saw just 15 percent of the offensive snaps for New England through four games. He also had become a non-factor on special teams.

The Jets, meanwhile, need the tight end depth. Injury-prone Kellen Winslow is their current starter and he's backed up by Konrad Reuland and Jeff Cumberland.
