Titans reach out to JaMarcus Russell, per report

The former top draft pick was approached by the Titans, but is still unable to make his return to the NFL.

With quarterback Jake Locker sidelined until at least November with a hip injury, the Tennessee Titans reached out to JaMarcus Russell as a possible option for veteran help, according to a report from Adam Schefter.

The former No. 1 overall draft pick made headlines earlier this year with several reports showcasing his attempt at a comeback, with the quarterback working with Jeff Garcia on his mechanics while also dropping a total of 51 pounds.

Unfortunately for Russell, he is unable to make his return to the NFL due to a nagging knee injury that has sidelined his hopeful comeback. Reports have also suggested that Russell has had trouble keeping off the weight he lost and after a workout with the Chicago Bears in the spring, has not garnered much attention from NFL teams despite the need across the league for experienced quarterbacks.

Russell, drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 2007, signed a six-year, $68 million rookie contract before quickly flaming out. In three seasons with Oakland, Russell completed just 52.1 percent of his passes for 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.
