Update: According to the FOX broadcast Vernon Davis will not return with a concussion.

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis has left Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers and will be evaluated for a possible concussion, according to FOX sideline reporter Laura Okmin.

Davis was hurt when he was hit as he attempted to catch the ball in the second quarter. At first it looked like he fumbled the ball, but it was ruled that he did not have possession. Davis did not remain on the field and initially appeared uninjured, but walked to the sideline where he was examined by trainers before leaving the field.

The 49ers currently lead the Panthers, 9-0, but losing Davis hurts the offense in a game that appears to be a mostly defensive affair. He caught one pass for 2 yards, but was the key to many of the team’s offensive principles against a Panthers team that has shown an inability to cover tight ends in 2013. A week ago, Carolina allowed 81 yards and a touchdown to Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez.

San Francisco will turn to Vance McDonald in Davis' absence. He has six receptions for 86 yards this season.
