Shane Vereen injury: Patriots RB will likely play vs. Panthers
The Patriots running back is expected to play on Monday night against the Panthers.

New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen is expected for Monday's game against the Carolina Panthers, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Vereen was placed on the injured reserve, designated-to-return list after breaking his wrist in the Week 1 win over the Buffalo Sabres. The third-year running back was explosive in the first game of the season, gaining 101 yards yards on 14 carries while also putting up 58 yards receiving on seven catches before suffering the injury.
The Patriots were expected to use Vereen as the big-play running back to compliment Stevan Ridley, who is now the leading rusher for New England with 514 yards rushing on the season. With LeGarrette Blount and Brandon Bolden helping to fill in for Vereen, the Patriots have the No. 8 rushing attack in the NFL, averaging 4.4 yards per carry as a team and 129.1 yards per game.
New England, 7-2 on the season, takes on the Panthers on Monday Night Football, with kickoff set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
