New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston set the franchise record for receiving yards on Sunday, passing Eric Martin.
Marques Colston becomes Saints all-time receiving yards leader
New Orleans had to rewrite its record book on Sunday, watching a former sixth round pick make history.
Colston certainly understood the moment, although he was not about to get caught up in the moment, per ESPN.com:
“It’s obviously an awesome feeling, but it’s one that I’ll kind of wait until the offseason to reflect on. We’ve still got a lot of football left to play this year,” said Colston.
Colston now has 7,923 yards after the 23-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers, earning himself a game ball afterwards, and some high praise by his future Hall of Fame quarterback, Drew Brees:
“I feel lucky to have played with him for 8 years. Hopefully we have quite a few more together”
Colston, a former Hofstra University star who was not highly thought of coming out of college, has a Super Bowl ring to his credit and plenty of respect from his peers. Arriving on the Saints roster the same year as Brees, the pair has made beautiful music in the Big Easy for the better part of a decade.
Overall, Colston sits 91st in NFL history in receiving yardage. If he can amass 500 more yards this season, he will vault up to the 74th spot on the list. In doing so, he would pass names such as Hall of Famers Bobby Mitchell, Don Hutson, Ozzie Newsome and Tommy McDonald.
