Carolina Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson left the team's Week 11 game against the New England Patriots in the third quarter with a right knee injury.
Charles Johnson injury: Panthers DE hurts knee on questionable leg swipe
The Panthers may have lost a big part of their defense on Monday night.
Just two minutes into the third quarter, Johnson was playing contain and had tossed Patriots right tackle Marcus Cannon to the ground. Cannon then swung his leg back towards Johnson and clipped him at the knee. It was a questionable move by Cannon to swipe his legs at a defender without looking.
Johnson went down to the ground immediately and was helped to the sideline. He had to be carted back to the locker room.
Johnson entered the game with 8.5 sacks this season and has been one of the Panthers’ top defensive players throughout his seven year career. Just two years ago, Johnson agreed to a six-year contract extension that paid him $32 million in guaranteed money.
UPDATE: Johnson did return to the field on the Patriots next offensive possession
Wow, Lisa Salters reporting Charles Johnson will return to play after being carted off. Encouraging news there
