Leslie Frazier ‘safe’ as Vikings coach through 2014

The Vikings coach is safe through at least the rest of this season.

Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman stated on Friday that the organization is fully supportive of Leslie Frazier and that the head coach is safe through this season, per the Associated Press.

“Leslie Frazier is not going anywhere,” Spielman said Friday. “I am telling you that we are very committed to Leslie Frazier and this coaching staff. And we’re committed to our players, and everybody is working extremely hard to get this thing turned around.”

The Vikings have just one win on the season and have now suffered through three straight blowout losses, all while still attempting to determine the best option for the team at quarterback. The Vikings signed Josh Freeman a month ago and, after failed attempts by Freeman and Matt Cassel to prove to be the leaders of the offense, Christian Ponder is set to be back under center this Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Frazier has been the coach of the Vikings since midway through the 2010 season and recovered from a 3-13 campaign in 2011 to make the postseason last year with a 10-6 record, thanks in large part to a historical performance by Adrian Petersen. The Vikings have the No. 18 rushing attack this season with just 103.3 yards per game and rank No. 27 in passing offense.
