The New Orleans Saints have moved Jonathan Vilma to the active roster, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. The veteran was placed on the "IR-to-return" list in training camp after requiring knee surgery, keeping him out a minimum of eight games.

Vilma is in his sixth season with the Saints, having been traded to New Orleans after four seasons with the New York Jets. The former Miami Hurricane has been one of the more consistent linebackers in the league since being a first round pick in 2004.
The lone blemish on Vilma’s career is the suspension by Roger Goodell in 2012 for his alleged involvement in a bounty program that offered cash rewards for any player who injured an opposing quarterback. The decision was later overturned and the linebacker was reinstated, but Vilma will always be seen through the scope of that scandal.
Vilma joins a Saints defense that has exceeded expectations, allowing the fourth-fewest points per game in the NFL through eight weeks.
