John Fox taken to hospital after chest pains

The Broncos head coach is in his third season in Denver.

Andy Lyons

Denver Broncos head coach John Fox has been admitted to a hospital with chest pains, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Fox, in his third season as the head coach of the Broncos, has been coaching in the NFL since 1989. The former San Diego State player became a head coach in 2002 when he was given the reigns of the Carolina Panthers. With two NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl appearance, Fox is easily the most successful coach in Panthers history.

After departing Carolina, Fox was brought in by the Broncos to replace Josh McDaniels and interim head coach Eric Studesville. Three seasons into a four-year deal, Fox is proving to be one of the elite head coaches in the NFL. The Broncos are 28-12 since his hiring, winning the AFC West the last two seasons.

Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio would be the most obvious candidate to replace Fox if his condition keeps him out past the Broncos’ bye week and into Week 10.

Update: The Broncos believe Fox is OK. The team announced he did not suffer a heart attack.
