NFL news roundup: Cortland Finnegan to IR, Mike Pouncey ruled out and more

St. Louis Rams cornerback Cortland Finnegan was placed on injured reserve, Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey was ruled out for Sunday’s game and more you may have missed from Saturday in the NFL.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

St. Louis Rams cornerback Cortland Finnegan was placed on injured reserve on Saturday. Finnegan sustained an eye injury and was listed as doubtful on the official injury report heading into Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears. Finnegan will be shut down for the season. He'd been disappointing thus far, but it's still a big loss for a struggling Rams secondary. The team activated rookie safety T.J. McDonald from short-term IR to fill the spot.

Here’s what else you might have missed on Saturday:

Pouncey ruled out

Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Mike Pouncey has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. It's the second consecutive missed game for Pouncey, who had not missed a game in his career to this point. Pouncey was hospitalized with a severe case of food poisoning and has both kidney and gallbladder issues. The team is trying to get Pouncey treated without surgery at this point.

Kerley declared out against Baltimore

New York Jets wide receiver Jeremy Kerley has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens. Kerley is dealing with an elbow injury that has kept him limited the last few weeks. He's started five games this season and has been solid, catching 28 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns. Most recently, he's struggled, which is disappointing after a fast start to the season. The Jets need all the help they can get on offense.

Hayward to IR

The Green Bay Packers placed cornerback Casey Hayward on injured reserve on Saturday. Hayward has been dealing with a hamstring injury and recently suffered a setback in his recovery. The veteran missed several games at the start of the season, and now he'll be shut down for its remainder. The team activated second-year defensive end Jerel Worthy from the physically unable to perform list to fill Hayward's spot.

Mincey suspended

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Jeremy Mincey was handed a suspension on Saturday, as he did not travel with the team for this week's game. It's not an official suspension, at least not yet, but he will not play. Mincey violated team policy, but it's unclear at this point what policy that was. Mincey is primarily a depth player, but has been effective as a pass rusher in a limited role this season, with 14 tackles and two sacks in seven games.

Hester taking snaps at DB

Chicago Bears wide receiver and kick returner Devin Hester was taking practice reps at defensive back this week. Hester was a defensive back when the team drafted him in 2006, but was switched to receiver the next year. The Bears have multiple issues in the secondary and Hester could be an emergency option to start in the secondary.

Reed ruled out against San Francisco

Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed has been ruled out for Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers. Reed sustained a concussion in Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and has been unable to pass the required tests as per the league's concussion protocol. There was a final test on Saturday, which Reed either did not attempt or failed.
