Eric Fisher injury: Chiefs OT not expected to play vs. Chargers

The rookie offensive lineman has struggled significantly this season.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Eric Fisher is not likely to play on Sunday against the Chargers, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

Fisher, taken No. 1 overall by the Chiefs in the 2013 NFL Draft, has missed two games already this season while dealing with several nagging injuries. The young tackle has struggled at times on the right side for the Chiefs offense, working hard to deal with the jump in competition from his days at Central Michigan to what he sees each week in the NFL.

The Chiefs are tied for the top record in the AFC at 9-1, however, and have continued to find success offensively despite a less-than-stellar offensive line. Fisher has consistently graded out the worst of the five regular linemen, but an adjustment period is expected for rookie offensive tackles breaking into the league.

Second-year lineman Donald Stephenson is expected to start in Fisher's place, with coach Andy Reid stating that Fisher's injury is not expected to be long term.
