Jaguars vs. Texans 2013: Jacksonville upsets Houston in low-scoring game

Our SB Nation writers are discussing the Jaguars loss to the Texans.

Bob Levey

The Jaguars were able to upset the Texans at home on Sunday. The 13-6 win came at the price of the Texans' eighth straight loss, and what could be Houston's ticket to a top draft pick in April. The Jaguars were led by a season-high performance from Maurice Jones-Drew and an impressive defensive performance by Gus Bradley's unit. Houston is now among the worst records in the league 2-9, along with (ironically) the Jacksonville. Case Keenum has been up-and-down all season, and this loss may have been his last to prove that he belongs.

Bayless Parsley of Battle Red Blog believes the Texans will target a quarterback in the upcoming draft:

There will no longer be any question about which position we’re taking in the draft. And if ever the Texans were to fire a coach in the middle of a season, it would be now.

Whoever is coaching next year’s team, and whichever rookie quarterback is given the task of turning the franchise around, let us hope that better must come.

Adam Stites of Big Cat Country thinks the Jaguars put together an all-around team win:

It wasn't pretty, but the Jaguars defense shut down the Houston Texans offense for four quarters and the offense did just enough to hold on to the lead that was established on the opening possession to earn a 13-6 victory.

The Jaguars defense held Texans quarterback Case Keenum to just 18-of-34 passing for 169 yards and an interception, as the Houston offense was unable to find the end zone for the entire game. While Texans running back Dennis Johnson was able to find some running room, accumulating 74 yards on 13 carries, the team never found much of a rhythm against the resurgent Jacksonville defense.

On offense, the Jaguars didn't turn the ball over. After a 10-play, 75-yard drive resulted in a touchdown on the opening possession of the game, that's all that can really be said about the Jacksonville offense. It took care of the ball.

The Jaguars will travel to Cleveland to face the Browns in Week 13, while the Texans will host the Patriots.
